11 MILLIONTH-VISITOR MILESTONE FOR NIGHT SAFARI

Singapore , May 29, 2007 – The world’s first nocturnal wildlife park, Singapore’s Night Safari welcomed its 11th million visitor today. Madam Hing Siew Ling, a 37-year old housewife from Malaysia and her family were the lucky visitors following the countdown that started in April when visitorship to the Night Safari exceeded the 10th million mark.

According to Ms Fanny Lai, Executive Director of Night Safari and Singapore Zoo, reaching the 11 millionth visitor in 13 years is a landmark achievement for Night Safari.

“This year is a very special year for us. In addition to welcoming the 11 millionth visitor, we have also attained another milestone. For the financial year 2006, we have hit a record of 1.1million visitors. For this, I give credit to the team for their efforts, dedication and commitment to constantly exceed visitors’ expectations”, said Ms Lai.

Over the years, the park has grown in terms of facilities, programmes and expertise. It has added a wider variety of flora, fauna and animals. Set in 40 hectares of secondary forest, it has over 1000 nocturnal animals representing 120 species and fragrant night blooms.

Visitors who have been to the Night Safari are always awed by the free ranging animals and the magical journey of discovery at the park, with real life encounters with nocturnal animals as they emerge at night.

“It is school holidays now in Malaysia. My eldest daughter wanted to see the owl that’s why we came to Night Safari. I feel very lucky to be the 11 millionth visitor. It’s like winning the lottery,” said Madam Hing.

Family visitors currently make up more than 30 per cent of visitors to Singapore and are a key customer segment in the Singapore Tourism Board’s Tourism 2015 plans to attract 17 million visitors and S$30 billion in tourism receipts in 2015.

Singapore Tourism Board’s Director of Cluster Development (Sightseeing and Cruise), Ms Carrie Kwik said, ”The Singapore Tourism Board congratulates the Night Safari on achieving this milestone in visitorship. The Night Safari is undoubtedly one of the favourite attraction for visitors as well as residents. Consistently ranked amongst Singapore’s top five paid-access attractions and sites among overseas visitors, Night Safari was also crowned winner of the Best Leisure Attraction Experience in STB’s Tourism Awards 2006. Key to its success is its commendable effort to continually refresh its offerings which give visitors new reasons to visit.”

According to Ms Lai, Night Safari will continue to strive to bring more educational and entertaining programmes, and also to heighten the awareness and importance of conservation actions.

As the 11 millionth visitor, Madam Hing and her family were awarded unlimited membership for a year to the Singapore Zoo and Night Safari, dinner at Ulu Ulu Safari Restaurant, Jungle Breakfast with Wildlife and a personalized zoo tour on Wild Discoverer. In addition, Madam Hing and her family also received a $200 Vivocity shopping voucher and a two-night stay Siloso Beach Resort, compliments from the Singapore Tourism Board. The total prize package is worth over S $1500.
